Gunnar Kennedy was born at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Early in his childhood, he spent four years growing up at U.S Navy Base Naples, Italy, before moving to Alton, where he continued to grow up. He was an honor roll graduate of the Alton High School Class of 2023. After high school, Gunnar attended the University of Virginia’s School of Engineering, where he studied Computer Science and was in his third year. He also spent time studying abroad at Saint Louis University in Madrid, Spain. During his time on earth, Gunnar embraced life fully and explored the world traveling across the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and South America. He had an adventurous spirit, scaling mountains, walking through volcanoes, and surfing the waves, all while maintaining honor roll standing at the University of Virginia. Gunnar was a devoted Christian and a true family man who would do anything and everything for the people he loved.

Gunner is survived by his mother, Sherry Dills-Kennedy; his stepfather, Rick Rogers; his younger brother, Logan Kennedy; his older brother, Justin Thurman; his sister-in-law, Wenxing Thurman; his grandmother, Nga Dills; his uncle, Kie Dills; and his aunt, Tracy Dills, as well as his many friends from around the world and the wonderful communities in the Ozarks and at the University of Virginia.

Services will be at 3:00pm Saturday, October 25, 2025 at the Alton High School with Bro. Charles Trantham officiating.
