Rebekah “Becky” Louise Braswell Tripp was born January 26, 1954, to Thomas Joe and Vernice Green Braswell. She was born at Dr. Cooper’s Clinic in Thayer, Missouri, and the family lived on their farm outside of Alton, Missouri until 1964. The family attended the Alton First Baptist Church and Becky accepted Jesus as her savior at an early age. She was baptized in the Pacific Baptist Church at Pacific, Missouri. She graduated from Pacific High School in 1972, then attended the University of Missouri at Kansas City where she earned a bachelor’s degree. Becky and David Michael Tripp married on September 25, 1981, in the chapel of the Old Mission United Methodist Church, in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. Following their move to Portland, Oregon, their two sons were born: Sean Charles and Aaron Thomas. Becky was active in church her entire life, participating in the United Methodist Church in Lake Oswego, Oregon for over 30 years. Becky was much loved by friends, family, and practically everyone who met her. Her infectious smile and laughter made everyone happy! She adored her husband David, two sons Sean and Aaron, and future daughter-in-law Cansel Dorak. She took pleasure in holidays, family celebrations, and dinners. Becky loved to garden, amassing a variety of indoor and outdoor plants. She delighted in numerous trips to the Pacific coast as well as traveling throughout the USA and international locales including the Caribbean Islands, Panama Canal, Australia and New Zealand with her husband and friends and family. Becky enjoyed hiking and was in a hiking group for years, leading and planning numerous hikes with David and the group. She was an avid environmentalist and was active in causes she cared about. Becky loved the outdoors, and the hundreds of boat rides as First Mate for David on the family boat. Camping was a favorite activity so long as she didn’t get soaked in rainstorms. Her professional career was in government. Before moving to Oregon, she worked for the Missouri Division of Family Services. She spent 30 years working for Multnomah County, Oregon. She was a dedicated worker and enjoyed helping others through her public service. She is survived by her loving husband David, sons Sean and Aaron, future daughter-in-law Cansel, sister and brother-in-law Verna and Harvey Browning of Georgetown, Texas, sister-in- law Kathy Tripp Hull of Columbia, Missouri, sister-in-law Patricia Dobbs Tripp, and many other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her mother Vernice and father Joe, brother- in-law Harold Hull, and brother-in-law James Tripp. Many family members and friends will miss her, but all can take comfort in knowing she is now with God, at peace and without pain. A Celebration of Life will be held for Oregon area friends on September 6, 2025, at Becky’s church Lake Oswego United Methodist, Oregon. A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held on September 20, 2025, 10 AM, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 40 CR 408, Alton, Missouri. Interment will immediately follow at the family’s Huddleston Cemetery, Alton, Missouri. |
