Virginia (Lucille) (Honeycutt) Underwood was born April 20,1937, in Oregon County Missouri, the first of seven children born to Otto and Grace (Hackworth) Honeycutt. She departed this world, for her heavenly home, May 6, 2025, at the age of eighty-eight. She was a beautiful precious soul, whose body was weary, and heart ready, to see the Lord, to check on Ralph, and reunite with her sisters and brothers. Lucille was raised into a simple life in Honeycutt hollow, with cousins and family around every corner. They shared memories and love that lasted a lifetime. Lucille attended Couch Schools, where she played volleyball, softball and developed a love of sports. She continued that passion, cheering on her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as she watched them play ball. She graduated with the class of 1955, still maintaining a close relationship with many of her classmates. Lucille and Ralph married in 1956 and began their family soon after. She lived her life as written in Proverbs 31, a virtuous woman. She was a member of the Thayer Freewill Baptist Church, a deacon’s wife, and servant of the Lord until her health no longer allowed. She was a cherished wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves her family with an aching heart and a yearning to keep her close, but also, many wonderful memories, much laughter and much love. Missed will be; the coffee always on, the cookie jar full and chocolate on the table, chili at deer season, and a listening ear; the raise of her brow, the sideways smirk, the roll of her eyes and her contagious giggle. Leaving to mourn her passing, two sons; Jed and wife Sandy, Jim and wife Shelley, daughter, Jill Underwood-Belding and husband Matt, four grandchildren, Jared (Bethany) Underwood, Logan (Leslie) Underwood, Megan (Marc) Pitts, Jade (Darren) Spangler; 9 great-grandchildren, Maddux, Holden, Liam, Lennox, Leif, Underwood; Landry, Cannon, Marley Pitts, Emerson Spangler. Sister Lana (Rick) Chester, sisters-in-law Linda Honeycutt, Mary Jane Honeycutt. Brother-in –laws David Garrison, Junior Brewer. Many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins she loved deeply, and some very dear friends. She was preceded in death in March, by her husband of 69 years, Ralph Emerson Underwood, Jr. Also, preceding her passing, parents, Otto and Grace (Hackworth) Honeycutt. Beloved parent –in- laws, Ralph and Helen Underwood, sisters, Brenda Garrison, Linda Kay Brewer, and Sue Burkhead, brothers David Honeycutt, Eddie Honeycutt, brother-in-law Bill Burkhead. We rejoice and find peace knowing, Jesus said, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. There will be a glad reunion day, until then, we will “Be Sweet”! Visitation will be held at the graveside at Thayer Cemetery, 2pm-3pm, Sunday, May 11, 2025, with a graveside service following at 3pm. Pallbearers: Jed Underwood, Jim Underwood, Matt Belding, Jared Underwood, Logan Underwood, Marc Pitts, Darren Spangler Honorary Pallbearers: Landry Pitts, Maddux Underwood, Cannon Pitts, Holden Underwood, Liam Underwood, Marley Pitts, Lennox Underwood, Emerson Spangler, Leif Underwood |
