It is with heavy hearts that we announce Dennis Gene Smith, born in Thayer, Missouri on August 24th, 1953, passed away on December 3, 2024, at the age of 71.

He was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished Papa.

Dennis never met a stranger, and his warm heart, infectious laughter, and genuine kindness made everyone he met feel like a friend. He cherished his relationship with God and found joy in the love of his family and friends. Being “Papa” was his greatest title, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. Dennis loved hunting and fishing with his son and grandchildren; his many stories of the “big one that got away” will be warmly remembered. From fishing trips to shopping sprees, he made every moment with them meaningful. Whether attending their many sporting events or sharing stories over a game of Rummy, he was always their biggest cheerleader and greatest source of support. Dennis was deeply devoted to strengthening his community, never hesitating to lend a helping hand or share a warm smile. As a proud supporter of the Alton Comets, Zizzer Track & Cross Country, and the many teams his grand-daughter plays on, Dennis rarely missed a meet or game. From basketball, to softball, cross-country and ballet his presence in the stands and audience will be greatly missed.

Throughout his life, Dennis exemplified the value of hard work and commitment, a legacy he proudly passed on to his son and grandkids. Whether on the job or volunteering in his community, he consistently gave his best, inspiring those around him to do the same.

For 43 years, he was a loving and committed husband to his wife, Felecia. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, mutual respect, and shared laughter.
Together, they built a home filled with cherished memories, unwavering support, and countless moments of happiness. From sharing quiet mornings over coffee to celebrating life’s milestones, he made every moment special simply by being present.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Felecia Smith; his son, Marshall Smith; his daughter-in- law, Rochelle Smith, grandchildren, Trevin and Aria Smith; brother Mike Smith and countless loved ones who will forever cherish the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave.

He is preceded by his parents, Doyle and Dorothy (Huggins) Smith; 3 brothers, Lonnie Smith, Dwayne Smith, Ronnie Smith; 1 sister, Laverne Johnson.

Dennis leaves behind memories of love and laughter that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by his family, friends, and community. Though our hearts ache with his passing, we find solace in the memories of a life well-lived and the knowledge that his love will forever be with us.

A graveside service to celebrate Dennis’s life will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Cave Springs Cemetery in Alton, Missouri. Flowers and donations may be sent in his memory to Clary Funeral home at 102 Vine St Alton, Missouri 65606

Rest in peace, Dennis. Your love, laughter, and light will forever shine in the lives of those you touched.
