Helen Joan Hobbs, age 91 of Alton, MO was born May 17, 1933 in Mint Hill, North Carolina and passed away October 28, 2024 at Shepherd’s View Assisted Living, Alton, MO. Survivors include her husband Ira Hobbs, her brother Edgar Wilson and wife Marlene, her first husband’s children, David Stephens (wife Dusk) and Nancy Porter (husband Scott) nephews Mike Wilson and John Wilson (wife Jennifer), nieces Donna Askew, (husband Ron) Lana Boone, (husband John, deceased) Audrey Davis (husband Tom), and numerous great nephews and great nieces and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence T Wilson and Ila Baker Wilson, her step mother, Muriel Cline Wilson, her first husband Olen Lamar Stephens, two brothers, C. Everett Wilson and Harry Wilson and 2 sisters Anna Wilson and Evelyn Wilson. Joan, pronounced JoAnn, gave her early life to spreading the gospel of Christ. When her health no longer allowed her continuance in the calling, she married Olen Stephens of Gainesville, GA in October of 1989. Olen and Joan made their home in Gainesville until Olen’s passing June 12, 2008. Ira and Joan married December 2, 2009 and soon thereafter relocated to Alton MO where they have made their home since. Joan only recently moved to Shepherd’s View Assisted Living in Alton when her health and conditions no longer allowed for Ira to continue care in the home. Often during visits with family, Joan specifically mentioned of her appreciation, not only of Ira’s love and care for her, but those at Shepherd’s View that showed great kindness. The entire family extends their own thanks to the staff for all they did for Joan. Visitation will be 1:30-2:30pm Sunday at the Clary Funeral Home, Alton MO. Services will be 2:30pm Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the Clary Funeral Home, with Daniel Farris and Tyler Harbur officiating. Burial will follow the services and be in the Wilson Family Cemetery. |
