Glen Woodrow Booker was born to Hobert and Alba (Hand) Booker on February 10, 1938, in Alton, Mo. He passed on to heaven on May 22, 2024. Glen was a life-long resident of Alton where he attended school and graduated from high school in 1956. Directly from graduation, Glen started work in bridge construction with Oakley Clark Bridge Company — later named West Plains Bridge & Grading. At the age of 18, Glen was drafted into the Army and was deployed into Germany as the country rebuilt post WWII. After his military service, Glen returned to bridge construction. He aided in the construction of thousands of bridges in Missouri and the surrounding states. He retired as supervisor after 54 years with West Plains Bridge & Grading. On September 28, 1963, Glen married Julia Ruth (Martin) Booker at Pleasant Ridge Free Will Baptist Church in Alton, Mo. The couple were life-long church members. Glen and Ruth built their own home in 1973 on land passed to them from Ruth’s parents in the late 1960s. From there, they farmed beef cattle and operated a dairy cattle farm. Ruth experienced a stroke in 2005, which limited her physical capacity; Glen became her hands and feet, her encourager and overall caretaker until her death in 2023. He also continued to farm his land and cattle and attended every family activity as the biggest supporter. Glen is survived by his daughters: Glennette and Chris Haney; Tina and Curtis Haney; and Julia and Inocencio Leija. Grandchildren: Aaron and Brittany (Sisco) Haney; Tiffany (Haney) and Robert Stagg; Tabitha (Haney) and Chandler Davis; Andrea (Haney) and Nick Beene; Martin Leija; Isaac Haney; Liliana Leija; Emilia Leija. Great grandchildren: Miley Haney; Mason Haney; Ava Stagg; Marshall Davis; Nash Beene. Sisters: Leona Booker; Marilyn Booker. Brother: Lonnie and Margaret (Warren) Booker. Sisters-in-law: Mary (Johnson) Booker; Rebecca (Martin) and Wendell Williams. Brother-in-laws: Allen Roland; Kenneth and Barbara (Ford) Martin. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Glen is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his parents; his grandparents William and Mary (Phillips) Booker and James and Pearl (Rackley) Hand; his brothers Harriell Booker, Ronald Booker, Donald Booker, Phillip Booker; in addition to his great grandparents and other loved ones. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Gideons International Faith Fund to support scriptures for people unable to purchase their own. Visitation will be 10-11:00 am with services at 11:00 am Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO with Bro. Edward Casey officiating. Burial in the Cave Spring Cemetery. |
