Markle “Mark” Doyle Barrett left this world on March 17, 2024. He was born January 29, 1963, in Jonesboro, AR to Beryl B. and Marcella Staggs Barrett. Mr. Barrett was a graduate of Crowley’s Ridge Academy in Paragould, AR where he still holds the record for 215 rebounds in a single season during his basketball career.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Barrett was predeceased by his grandparents Herman Clyde and Clara Barrett of Wichita, KS and Paragould, AR; and Earnest Doyle and Willie Cora Staggs of Jonesboro, AR.

Mark was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, tracking, and camping with his friends and family. An annual camping trip was always something that Mark looked forward to, whether in the Rocky Mountains, the Georgia woods, or locally at the Eleven-Point River. He taught his children to honor and respect nature and was proud of their enthusiasm to embrace his love of the outdoors. He was especially proud of his two children, Kyle and Lori Grace, to whom he devoted his time and energy. Mark was a hands-on parent and participated in any school activity in which his children were involved. He was particularly proud of being named “Parent of the Year” at Alton Elementary School for his dedicated work with the children’s activities.

Mr. Barrett worked several different types of jobs including construction, cabling, and even a stint at a wildlife park. He was a skilled carpenter who built everything from houses to hi-rises. After a serious injury on a hi-rise structure, Mark refocused his life on less dangerous activities such as hunting wild animals! Mark was brave and fearless and faced life with a can-do attitude. His exuberant smile will be missed by so many.

He leaves behind his son, Kyle Decker Barrett, of Alton, MO; daughter and son-in-law, Lori Grace and Connor Buffington, of Springfield, MO; Tisha Barrett; a brother and sister-in-law, Greg and April Barrett of Parsons, TN; and best friend, Bill David of Marietta, GA.

Mr. Barrett chose cremation, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Alton Elementary School Head Start, 505 School Street, Alton, Missouri 65606, phone 417-778-7
