Aaron Douglas Shafer was born at home Oct. 31 1989 to Douglas and Sharon Shafer, and passed away at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St Louis Mo, after a brief battle with cancer.

At his side for the duration of his illness, was his devoted wife Faith. Aaron and Faith Lockerby were united in marriage Nov. 29 2014 and enjoyed 8 wonderful years together.

Aaron is survived by his wife Faith, daughter EllaMay, and sons Nathaniel, Jacob, and Zachary of the family home. Aaron is also survived by his parents, Douglas and Sharon, two sisters Grace (Justin) Mardis, Sara (Jonathan) Kemper, his Father in law David Lockerby and a multitude of Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and extended family. Preceding him in death were his Grandparents, a baby sister Rebecca, and his mother in law Carolyn Lockerby.

Aaron was a hard worker and grew up in the family business installing Rock N Oak wood burning furnaces and Heating and Air units. He was also the local fixit man and was always on the go fixing appliances and helping out when he could.

Aaron was a 15 year veteran of the Alton fire department and was proud to be Alton 509 for many years.

Aaron was a special man with a dry wit and charm, a stubborn streak, and a laid back personality. He will always be remembered for helping others and not being afraid to get his hands dirty to get a job done. Aaron took special pride in his family and worked hard to provide for them and spend time with them.

The family would like to thank the community for their love, prayers, and support, and also the many churches and prayer warriors across the country who prayed with us during this time.
