Elmer Samuel “Sam” Sneed II, age 69 of Pickneyville, IL, was born January 21, 1953, in Sikeston, MO, and passed away June 4, 2022, at the SSM Health Center in Fenton, MO.

Survivors include: his wife, Rebecca Anne “Becky” (Minich) Sneed; 1 daughter, Sarah Anne Sneed; 1 son, Samuel Scott Sneed; 3 nieces, Syvlia Cox, Beth Harlin, and Mary Banning; 1 nephew, John Cox; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Elmer Samuel and Eloise (Ashby) Sneed; his step-father, Bill McCarty; his in-laws, Jack & Bette Minich; 1 sister, Judy Brown; 1 sister-in-law, Chari Hardwick.

“I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning… to the end.”
“He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke of the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.”
“For that dash represents all the time they spent alive on earth and now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth.”
“For it matters not, how much we own, the cars… the house… the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.”

Sam lived his dash being a kind compassionate man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, music, even wanting at one time to be a high school band teacher. He discovered a love of cooking and photography taking pictures of eagles along rivers in Illinois. Sam worked 25 years at Hicks Trading Post. He was a loving husband, wonderful father. and loyal friend, a life well lived. RIP.

Per his wishes Sam will be cremated with a celebration of live memorial service in Pickneyville, Ill. at a later date.
