Don was 90 years of age when his Heavenly Father called him home. It may have been breakfast time in Heaven rather than supper time as the lyrics of a song goes. After he and his wife Marianne (Wilburn) of 66 years talked awhile, she said to him, "I’ll go fix you some breakfast.†When she returned with the food, he was unresponsive. God had called him home. Don and Marianne had two boys: Karl and Kirt. Karl and wife Margaret live on the family farm and Kirt and wife Kathy live in Basehor, KS. Don had two sisters: Jo Ann Lawrence of Edmond, OK, and Susie VanCamp of Alton. He had one brother Joe (Shirley) of Alton. His grandchildren were Jonathan (Heather) of West Plains, Andy (Mendy), of West Plains, Kraig (Stephanie) of Edwardsville, IL, and Katie Lee (Nathaniel) Walsh of Louisville, KY. He was also blessed with nine greats: Ian, Jackson, Parker, Grayson, Reed, Kasen, Rose, Lewis, and Lucy. Don’s favorite recreation spot was the Eleven Point River. He knew exactly where the bass and goggle eye lay, and how to catch them. He began guiding Jon boats for his Dad’s (Roy) business when he was in grade school. One day he was a guide for ‘Fat Thomas’ a preacher of the gospel who helped him realize his need of a Savior. Later in a field beside a fence post he prayed and asked God to forgive him of his sins and to come into his heart. If you haven’t invited Jesus into your heart, Don would wish that you would. Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Riverton Cemetery. |
