Jane Carolyn Johnson was born August 6th, 1933 in the Whitten community near the Eleven Point River and passed away May 20th, 2020. Carolyn was the youngest child of Samantha Bailey Whitten and Charles Edgar Whitten.

On November 24th, 1951 she was united in marriage to Dale J Johnson and to this union two sons were born. She is survived by her husband Dale J. of the home, two sons Rick and wife Charlotte of Alton, and Dennis and wife Toni of West Plains, MO. She is also survived by two Granddaughters Jessica Johnson Bennett of Alexandria Virginia, and Jaclyn Clay and husband Chris of Alton, two grandsons Colton Godsy of Springfield, MO and Matthew Godsy of Kansas City, MO. Three great grandchildren Connor Clay, Cameron Clay, and Emma Claire Bennett as well as Sister-in-law Dorothy Whitten and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Francis Huddleston, Nancy Stanley, Hazel Reed, June Williams, Georgia Williams and Emma Lou Casey and brothers Charles Edgar Whitten Jr and Joe B. Whitten. She was also preceded in death by her Father and Mother in Law Oba and Elva Johnson and sister-in-law Dessie Vogel.

Carolyn was known in the community for her caring nature and willingness to help those in need. She was a spunky, quick-witted, caring person who could light up a room. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. She was the last of a long line of sisters who were well known for their cooking including fried chicken, yeast rolls, and cinnamon rolls. She was a dedicated Christian and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alton.

Graveside services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday May 23 in the Hickory Grove Cemetery with Reverends Bob Wiggs and Edward Casey officiating. Honorary pall bearers are Chris Clay, Colton Godsy, Matthew Godsy, Connor Clay, Emma Claire Bennett, and Cameron Clay. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital
