Roberta Lee Gaines was born in Oklahoma City, on April 25, 1933 to Alvin Robert and Mabel May [Kelley] Hightower and passed to her eternal home at 10:24 am September 23, 2019 with her family by her side.

Roberta grew up on a farm in Oregon, graduated from Cascade Union High school in Turner and earned her bachelor of science degree from NEO in Miami, OK.

Roberta’s greatest joy in life was serving the Lord and worshipping God. She accepted Christ at an early age. About age 14 she showed her dedication by being baptized in February with ice on the river shore. The fruits of Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control were all evident in her life. She followed Jesus’ example by serving many people during her life of 86 years and five months.

Roberta married the love of her life, Clayton Gaines of Thayer on Oct. 7, 1984 and enjoyed 25 years on a farm. She loved the farm life, gardening, canning, churning butter, hunting, caring for the men in her life, Clayton, David and Ottie Sorrell. In later years she served Thayer by delivering Meals on Wheels to home-bond senior citizens.
During her last ten years she lived with her sister, Charlotte Huskey of Guthrie, OK. They enjoyed endless hours reminiscing over their childhood. The book A Faithful Father is a compilation of memories of their growing up years with their siblings, Jim and Lois.

Roberta is survived by one sister Charlotte Huskey and granddaughter Maria Padilla, 6 nephews, Bob, Tim, and Ben Huskey of Guthrie, Jim Hightower of Ohio, Brian Hightower of Bartlesville, Mike Hightower of Neosho MO and 5 nieces: Tricia Bell of Sapulpa, Rosa Gellenbeck of Guthrie, Leah Wilson, of Enid, Julie Hightower of Neosho, MO. And Christy Hueto of Tijuana, Mexico.

Roberta was preceded in death by Clayton Gaines, her husband of 24 years, a step son, David Gaines, her parents Alvin and Mabel Hightower, a brother Jim Hightower and sister Lois Davis, also two great nieces Maria Huskey and Kayleah Bell.

She was lovingly called “Aunt Bob” by her family and by almost everyone who knew her.
Viewing will at Clary Funeral Home in Thayer, MO from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Monday September 30, 2019. A memorial service will be held at the Oak Grove Church of God at 10:00 am Tuesday October 1, 2019.
