Virbel Nancy Bates, 89, of Mexico, MO died May 21, 2019 at the home of her son Paul Marquette. Virbel was born on January 12, 1930 to Edward James Jackson Bates and Emmer Jane Bennett Bates in Crystal City, MO area. She was raised in the Couch, MO area, the eighth of 12 children, six boys and six girls. Virbel left home at the age of 18 and moved to St. Louis, where she met Edward August Marquette, JR. They married and moved to Auxvasse, MO, near Edward’s family. They had three children, Charles, Paul and Carolyn. Edward and Virbel parted ways in 1957. Virbel, known as Nancy to her friends, and co-workers, worked as a CAN in several nursing homes in Mexico until she retired from Pin Oaks in 2005. She was a member of the Centennial Baptist Church. Virbel is survived by her sons, Charles Edward (Sheila) Marquette of Mexico, Paul George (Joyce) Marquette of Madison, eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by all her 11 siblings and their spouses, her daughter Carolyn Louise Marquette, two grandsons, Michael Paul Marquette and Jason Paul Marquette, and a great-grandson Josiah Dean Hazlett. Funeral services will be held at Clary Funeral Home in Alton, MO on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 1:00 pm, with visitation noon-until service time. Burial will follow in the Cave Springs Cemetery. Officiating will be Bryce Kristofferson and pallbearers will be Bruce Hazlett, Jonathan Hazlett, Caleb Marquette, Trystin Gravitt, Trevin Marquette and Orion Smith. A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, May 27, 2019 from 5-7:00p, in the fellowship hall of Grand Prairie Baptist Church in Auxvasse, MO for family and friends. |
