Alice Laura Mae Richardson Chambers was born September 30, 1932, at Manito, Illinois, the first of 9 children born to C. Ben Richardson (a blacksmith) and Edna Mae Allen Richardson. Even as a child, she was known for riding horses through town, sometimes maybe a little too fast, sometimes bridleless, sometimes with a pet coon along for the ride. Being the oldest, and being very close to her parents, she started farming with a team of horses at a very young age. She always said she could plow a field by the time she turned 13. When she turned 16, her father told her if she wanted to quit school she could run the farm. She did, all work done with horses. She and Robert Lewis Chambers were married December 23, 1952. To this union three children were born, Kathy Mae, Norma Jean, and James Edward. They farmed in Easton, IL, Manito, IL then Thomasville, Missouri where they had a Jersey cow dairy for many years. And while they did have a tractor, most farm work was still done with a team of horses. Alice was preceded in death by husband Robert (Bob) in 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jack and Charles, and nephews Bill and Steve, and brother=in-law George Thomas and sister-in-law Vickie. Alice is survived by Children Kathy (Gary) Miller, Jeanie (Kenny) Chambers, and Jim (Rita) Chambers. Also survived by grandchildren Kevin Miller, Randy (Lori) Miller, Bryan Chambers (Amanda), James Chambers ( Kala), and Sarah Chambers. Great-Grandchildren Dakota Miller, Dani Thomas, Lundynn Chambers, Jase Chambers, and Karli Chambers. Six siblings Joyce Thomas, Bonnie (Harold) Long, Ben (Susan) Richardson, Joe (Margie) Richardson, Jean (Dave) Ishmael, Carol (Mannie) Roberts. One Sister-in-law, Darlene Richardson, One Brother-in-law Pat (Debbie) Maloy. Twenty-one nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins. Funeral services will be 10am Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at the Clary Funeral Home in Alton, MO, Jeff Brake officiating, with burial following in the Woodside Cemetery in Thomasville, MO. Visitation will be 5pm-7pm Monday, May 20, 2019. Pallbearers - Tim Hand, Jerry McClanahan, David Elliot, Charles Alford, Jessie Adams and Jack Callahan.
