Danny W. Rickert was born April 3, 1943 in Grand Island, NE and passed away May 27, 2018 in Springfield, MO.

Dan is survived by wife Barbara, one sister Lynn, sons Jeffrey (Susan) and Martin (Sylvia), three step-children, Carol (Zerel) Mullen, Donald (Linda), Michael (Karan) Garske, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 13 nieces and nephews and 16 great-nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife Margaret (Pinkston) and his niece Donna (Moeller) Ray.

Dan retired from the United States Air Force after serving 26 years; a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak cluster, Air Force Good Conduct medal with seven oak clusters, Vietnam Service medal with two bronze stars, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Device and Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal.

He grew up in Grand Island, NE, the son of Frank and Eunice (Thompson) Rickert. He enlisted in the USAF and served in various locations around the Globe in Vietnam, Nebraska, Germany, Nevada and Alaska.

Upon retiring from the USAF, Dan worked for McDonald Douglas in Saudi Arabia for six years; upon returning to the United States he and Barbara settled in Alton, MO in 1989. Dan was active in the Lions Club, VFW, Chamber of Commerce and later a charter member of Ortractm Internet, serving Alton and surrounding areas.

Through out his life he was dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America, a leader who supported his sons in achieving Eagle Scout. Even while stationed in Saudi Arabia so far away he was still involved. In Alton, through his mentorship and guidance he help guide ten boys to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the Silver Beaver award for “exceptional character who have provided distinguished service within a council”.

Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Alton 1st Baptist Church with service to follow at 4:00pm, Bro. Mark McManus officiating. Following the service the body will be cremated with burial at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO.
