Donald Wayne Gray, age 70 of Alton, MO, was born June 24, 1947, in Springfield, MO, to Victor and Veda Gray, and passed away March 2, 2018, at his home. Don graduated from Mansfield High School in 1965 and later graduated from SMSU with a bachelor’s degree in education.

Don’s first love was his family. He treasured quality time with his wife, mother, children, and grandchild. Some of his favorite moments were barbecuing in the front yard with gospel music blaring and then sitting at the table to eat with family.

Don’s second love was athletics. He coached many sports in his career, but basketball was his favorite. He was able to impact the lives of many players, because he truly cared about them. Wins and championships were important, but Don cared more about helping prepare his students and players to succeed after high school. Coach Gray was loved by many.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Veda Gray.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Alton; son and daughter-in-law, Landon and Amanda Gray of Ozark; daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Duane Melton of Tipton; granddaughter, Lily Gray and an expected granddaughter Melton in May.

Visitation will be 5pm-7pm Monday, March 5, 2018, at the Clary Funeral Home in Alton, MO. Funeral services will be 11am Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Alton, MO. Burial will follow at 4pm at the Spring Hill Cemetery near Rogersville, MO.
