Freddie R. Collins, was born in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, October 28, 1940, son of Oliver and Rita (Washam) Collins. He departed this life Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Arkansas, at the age of 77 years, 1 month, and 25 days. Freddie met the love of his life Shirley Lavenia Adams at the Annual Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Reunion in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas in August 1957. They were united in marriage on April 29, 1960 in Salem, Arkansas and to this union 5 children were born. Freddie served his country in the United States Army from 1958-1978. During that time the family moved several times for service commitments which included being stationed in Fort Benning, GA, Scoffield Barricks in Oahu, Hawaii, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Mineral Wells, TX, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Fort Hood, TX. He retired as US Army Master Seargant after 20 years service. After retiring from the service he owned and operated several businesses in the area. Including the Station, the Fireworks stand, the Half Price Store, and various other partnerships. The last joy he had was buying, selling, and talking cows with anyone that would listen. Freddie is survived by 3 sons, Tom Collins and wife Sally of Fort Worth, Texas, Terry Collins and wife Teresa of Willard, Missouri, and Ricky Collins of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; 2 daughters, Sandy Ross and husband Steve of Alton, Missouri, and Donna Harper and husband Rodney of Damascus, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren, Tiffany (Collins) Truog, Tommie Collins, Steven Ross, Scott Ross, and Jared Harper, 2 nieces, 4 nephews; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Collins; his parents; three sisters, Nadine Marie Reynolds, Opal Louise Collins, Betty Ann Collins and one brother Richie Collins. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will truly be missed by his family and numerous friends. Funeral services will be held 10am Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the Clary Funeral Home in Thayer, MO, with burial following in the Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, AR. Visitation will be 6pm-8pm Friday, December 29, 2017. |
