Charles Leo Johnson was born October 24, 1931 to Charlie and Ellen Boze Johnson at Alton, Missouri and passed away on November 5, 2017 at Shady Oaks Healthcare Center, Thayer MO at the age of 86 years. Leo attended Alton School graduating in 1950. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior when he was 13 years old. He was a member of Many Springs Baptist Church. He served in the Korean War from 1952-1954. On December 26, 1962 Leo married Opal Lee Wynn. To this union three children were born. Leo worked at the City Market grocery store on the Alton square for ten years. Later, he worked for the federal government at Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster, MO, where he worked with DRMO for 27 years. In 1995 he and Opal retired and returned to Alton. He is survived by his wife, Opal, of the home. Children: Charles Leo Johnson, Jr. and wife Karen, of Clinton, IA, Amanda Louellen Smith and husband Dan of Eldon, MO, and Merlyn Wynn Johnson and wife Amy of St. James, MO. Grandchildren: Ronald Leo Smith and Guy Smith of Eldon, Matthew Johnson of Waterloo, IA, Melanie Johnson of Schaumburg, IL, Alyssa Dorris and Reagan Johnson of St. James. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wendell Johnson and his sister, Hazel Barton. Leo was a fun-loving person. He loved to be in the outdoors and enjoyed telling many interesting stories of his experiences. Services will be Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the Alton First Baptist Church. Visitation will be at 10:00am, Funeral Service will be at 11:00am. Burial at Many Springs Cemetery under direction of the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the Many Springs Baptist Church. |
