Elizabeth Louise "Betty" Muhlig Morgan Johnson was born June 3, 1925 in Joliet, Illinois, to Arnold F. and Helen L. (Wolling) Muhlig, and died peacefully on May 18, 2017 in Thayer, Missouri. She was married to Sherman H. Morgan, at Ilwaco, Washington in 1945. They moved to Los Angeles County, California, and had five children together. Both remarried after the marriage was dissolved. In 1974, she married Howard Ray Johnson. They moved to Thayer in 1992, where they resided for the rest of their days. Mr. Johnson passed away June 24, 2015. Betty is survived by four children, David Morgan, Susan Martinez, Annette Morgan, and Lynn Morgan, all of California, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Helen Muhlig, two siblings, Don Muhlig and Mary Jane Sporar, her husband Howard/Ray, one son, Ken Morgan, and a grandson, Richard Morgan. Betty was active and vibrant in her youth, as a young mother, into her middle years, and beyond. She enjoyed swimming, roller skating, horseback riding, water skiing, camping, fishing, rockhounding, jewelry making, textile crafts, and travel. In volunteer work, she was at times a Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout chaperone, Election Precinct Officer, and fundraiser for numerous causes. She was employed as a switchboard operator and receptionist, a census enumerator, and as an assistant at Norwalk Senior Citizens Center. Graveside services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the Thayer Cemetery with Bro. David Langston officiating. Arrangements under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home, Thayer, MO. The family would like to thank the friends and staff at Shady Oaks, Three Rivers Hospice, and Oregon County Public Administrator, Mindy Lawrence for all the kindness, care, and compassion. |
