George Albert Baker, Sr., 76 of Alton, Mo., went to rest with the Lord at his home on Thursday, May 11, 2017.

George was born on September 1, 1940 in Alton, Mo. to the late John and Verbal (Harper) Baker. Farming was his life. He farmed over one thousand acres of farmland beside his father ever since he was big enough to sit on a tractor seat. He was named Master Pork Producer by the Missouri Pork Producer Association in 1983 and received many farming awards throughout his life. He loved hunting and spending time with his family.

He was married to Carolyn June Smith on July 4, 1961. She survives. Also surviving are his brother Van Baker and wife Pam of Thayer, Mo and their two children, Jason Baker and family of Thayer, Mo. and Tracy Baker of Springfield, Mo.; five children: Angela and Craig Smith of Potosi, Mo., Debbie and Greg Keith of Poplar Bluff, Mo., George and Beverly Baker of Eureka, Mo., Donna and Robbie Blankenship of Alton, Mo., and John and Vicki Baker of Paragould, Ar.; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Christopher Smith.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 14, 2017, and funeral services will be held Monday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at Clary Funeral Home in Alton, Mo. with Bro. Jason Roberts officiating and Richie Wallace doing the eulogy. Following the funeral services burial will be at Cave Springs Cemetery, Alton, Mo. Pallbearers: George Baker, Jr., John Baker, Josh Baker, Matt Baker, Justin Keith, Robbie Blankenship, Craig Smith, Billy Palmer

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alton FFA Chapter School Foundation Fund.
