John M. Clayton, age 81 0f Gatewood, MO was born October 23, 1935 in Oklahoma and passed away April 14, 2017 at Saint Bernards Hospital, Jonesboro, AR.

Survivors include: two daughters, Katherine White and Debbie Clayton, 6 grandchildren, Brandy Nichols, Amber Clayton, Greg Clayton, Johnny Clayton, Brandon Clayton and Bobby Clayton; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Patterson, Alice McDonald, Barbara Sparkman, brother, Gillie Clayton, and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents Rufus Sparkman and Lillian Rossen-Sparkman, wife, Phyllis Joan Tanner-Clayton, a son, Dennis Clayton; a daughter Vanessa Reed and granddaughter, Ashley Nichols.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the Liberty Baptist Church in Gatewood, MO, with Bro. Jobe Steele officiating, burial in the Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 pm until service time at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Thayer, MO
