Howard Burnett Smith, age 86 of Mammoth Spring, AR, who was born November 9, 1930, in Blackwell, OK, passed away March 4, 2017, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem, AR.

Survivors include: his wife, Bonnie, and only son, Steven Jade Smith of Mammoth Spring, AR; his nieces, Dana Bungay of Seattle, WA, Cathy Bertschy of Bentonville, AR, and Connie Smith of Garfield, AR. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Walter and Adda (White) Smith; one brother, Walter S. Smith, Jr.; his sisters, Bonnie Jean (Smith) Davis, and Cartha D’Angelo; two nephews, Walter Scott Smith, III, and Woody Mack Smith; a sister-in-law, Audie Smith.

He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and served overseas in Japan as a radar and artillery operator. In 1957 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. His professional career spanned six decades as a control systems engineer, the highlight of which was his work on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Howard and family were long time residents of Houston, TX, and within the last year retired to the Ozarks which he loved so much.

Funeral services will be 1pm Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Clary Funeral Home in Thayer, MO, with Bro. John Hodges officiating, and interment following in the Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, AR. Visitation will be 12pm-1pm Saturday prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Thayer, MO.
