Wanda Sue Carriger, 78, of Jackson Mo., formerly of Alton Mo., and St. Jacob Il passed away February 25, 2016 in Cape Girardeau Mo. Wanda was born January 5th 1938 in Alton Mo., to W.B. and Dollie (Barton) Combs. On June 24th 1961, she married Muriel “Jim†Carriger who proceeded her in death on December 29th 2015. She graduated from Alton High School in 1956. She was licensed beautician, owning a beauty shop in Alton Mo. for several years. As her kids got older, she went to work for the Triad School District and retired as the Head Cook at the St. Jacob Elementary School after 25 years. She enjoyed sewing, playing bingo and “doing hair†with friends. Her favorite pastime was spoiling her grandchildren. She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, Alton Mo. and the Wesley United Methodist Church in Fruitland Mo. She had many fond memories of growing up in the Cave Springs Baptist Church in Alton Mo. She is survived by her daughter, Sudena (Jim) Lambert of Jackson Mo.; a son, Bill (Kris) Carriger of Highland IL.; grandchildren, Shelby (William Downey) Lambert, Tanner Lambert, Mitch and Trent Carriger; and great- grandsons Brayden and Seth Downey. A brother-in-law Earl “Keith†Carriger of Quincy IL. and sister-in-law Alice Carriger of Rantoul IL. As well as life-long childhood friend, Kay Shaw. Along with her husband of 54 years she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Wilma Jean Combs, who died as an infant and numerous Aunts and Uncles. She was also preceded in death by her in laws, Leon and Lillian (McGuire) Carriger; a step mother-in-law, Eva Carriger and brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Jackie Carriger. Funeral Services will be held Monday February 29th at 11am at Clary’s Funeral Home Alton Mo. with Bro. Keith Combs officiating. Visitation will be from 10am-11am prior to the service. Burial will be at the Cave Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cave Springs Cemetery. |
