Nellie Baertschi Mills, age 101 of Thayer, Missouri, was born September 21, 1913 in Oregon County, Missouri, and passed away July 17, 2015, at Shepherds View in Alton, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Roscoe Eugene Mills in Thayer, Missouri, on March 29, 1946. Nellie is survived by two daughters, Sharon Campbell of Thayer, Missouri and Ruth Farrow and husband Paul of West Plains, Missouri; two grandchildren, Annessa Bratten and husband Nathan of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Brian Campbell of Thayer, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Serena and Nicholas Bratten of Jonesboro, Arkansas; sister-in-law Reva Prinz of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mathias Baertschi and Emma Rosa Munz-Baertschi; her husband, Roscoe Eugene Mills; four brothers, Fred, John, Ernest and Mathias Baertschi; two sisters, Mary Baertschi and Rose Baertschi; and son-in-law, Richard Campbell. Nellie’s long life enabled her to personally live the historic events of her country, passing that knowledge on to her family. She hand painted pictures before color photography, riveted airplane wings and inspected bullets during World War II, worked at Hilton’s chicken processing plant, and was also a housekeeper. Nellie was a homemaker who had a green thumb with flowers and always had a big garden and would can and freeze the fruits and vegetables for all to enjoy. She was a talented seamstress who crafted decorative items for the home, made clothes for her family, and was gifted with her ability to make beautiful quilts. Her handiwork will be treasured by those who were gifted with her creations. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be truly missed by her family. Nellie’s family would like to thank the staff at Shepherds View for their wonderful care and love while she was a resident. Nellie was a devoted Christian who attended the Thayer Freewill Baptist Church and later attended the Thayer Assembly of God. The family will receive friends at the Clary Chapel in Thayer from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2015. Services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Bro. Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home in Thayer. |
