Patrick Earl Cotton, age 92 of Alton, MO was born December 25, 1921 and passed away July 4, 2014.

Survivors include; nieces, Shirley Johnson and husband Ben, Sally Kline and husband Steve, Janie Buck and husband Wayne, Janet Bond and husband Paul, Barbara Dethrow and husband Mike, nephews, Billy Cotton and wife Barbara, Johnny Cotton and wife Debbie, Alan Wilson and wife Judy, step-daughters, Shirley Young and husband Gary, Brenda Bell and husband Stan, Beth Oliver and husband Jeremy, several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paris and Anice Hall Cotton, wife Justine, sisters, Opal Gum, Fern Gum, Nelma Custer and Louise Wilson, brothers, L.R. (Red Cotton), Roscoe Cotton and nephew, Bob Gum.

Earl married Joyce Walters in 1950 and on January 1, 1997 married Justine Johnson.

Earl attended Couch School and graduated in April 1939. He clerked at Cotton’s Store in Couch for several years. He was in CCC Camp at Bardley, MO during 1941 and 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy 1942-1945 and later was in the U.S. Navel Reserves, where he retired in 1978. He attended Spartan Aeronautical School in Tulas, OK. He was employed with Northwest Airlines, Capital Airlines and United Airlines, wher ehe was a mechanic inspector until his retirement in 1980.

Earl was a life member of VFW and a 60-year plus member of the Masonic lodge, where he was a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Masons.

Earl was saved in 1937 at New Salem Church and, for the past several years, a member of the Alton United Methodist Church.

Services will be 10:00 am Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Alton United Methodist Church with Bro. Bob Wiggs and Bro. Edward Casey officiating. Interment will be in the New Salem Cemetery, Couch, MO under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO. Pallbearers will be Mike Dethrow, Stan Bell, Wayne Buck, Ajay Cotton, Tom Young and James Cotton.
