Joseph "Joe" Cooke, Jr., at home with the Lord, on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Beloved husband of Marion F. Cooke (nee Haymond)for 57 years. Cherished father of Wynsleen "Winnie" Ellegood, Bessie (Joe) Terranella, Barrylyn (Trish) Soundararajan, and the late Charleeda Jill Cooke. Dear grandpa of Jill (Ashel) Roberts, Whitney (Mark) Price, and the late Stephen King, Merrill Soundararajan, Trevor Soundararajan, Curtis Privett and Joshua Terranella. Dear great grandpa of Gracie, Adalee, and Edward "E.J." Our dear brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, neighbor and friend to all. He is dearly loved and will be sorely missed. Joe was an only child born to Joseph and Emma Cooke in Lexington, Kentucky on August 10, 1931. He attended schools in Kentucky, Georgia and Florida and he graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. He married Marion Haymond Cooke in 1955 in West Palm Beach. He served in the United States Navy and after his Naval service he began his lifelong career in teaching. Joe and Marion spent most of their married life raising their family in Alton, Missouri. In addition to teaching Joe became involved in small town politics. The couple spent summers with their family working on and around the family home place. Funeral Service on Saturday, November 23 at the Clary Funeral Home, 102 Vine Street, Alton, Missouri at 10:00am with the burial following at the Smith Cemetery, Alton. Visitation on Friday, November 22 from 6:00 to 8:00pm also at Clary Funeral Home. |
