Shirley Yvonne (Harrington) (Combs) Simpson was born 13 October 1938 in a farmhouse outside of Alton Missouri. The Daughter of Harold and Virginia Harrington, Shirley was united in marriage to William Andrew (Sam) Combs in 1954 who proceeded her in death in 1975. Their union bore four sons, Andrew N. (wife Debra) of Fort Worth TX, Robert L. of Alton MO, Anthony W. (wife Fran) of Springfield MO, and Jubal Q. (wife Cheri), Combs of St Louis, MO. After raising her sons she remarried on 17 December 1983 to Nelson G. Simpson of Alton MO who survives her in death. Along with two step-sons; Lewis M. (wife Sheri) of Granite City IL and Daryl E. (wife Marianne), Simpson of Virginia Beach VA. Shirley is survived by her younger Sister, Lee Olla Harrington of Alton MO, 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. A member of the Church of Christ. A beloved learning disability teacher serving Oregon County for over twenty years. A proud resident and property owner of Alton. Shirley lived everyday for her family, the joy of her life. A true matriarch to all who knew her she will be missed but never forgotten. She departed this life on 6 June 2013. She will be laid to rest at the Bailey Cemetery less than a mile from where she was born. Services will 2:00pm Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO, with visitation Monday, 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home. |
