Donald Gale Johnson, age 81 of Alton, MO, was born February 19, 1932, in Alton, MO, and passed away April 14, 2013. Donald served oversees as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Army for the 868th Field Artillery Service Battery. He was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the National Defense Medal. After his military service, Donald was a master electrician at Armco Steel where he retired after 31 years of service. Donald married the love of his life Joan Dotson on June 28, 1952. This love affair was the center point of his life and the two held hands for over 60 years of marriage. Aside from Joan, Donald’s most treasured moments were simply being grandpa where he was known for calling his grandchildren “Papa’s Precious Puddin” and loving them a “bushel and a peck with a hug around the neck”. Donald was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and was always ready to help. Survivors include: his wife, Joan, of the home; 2 sons, Randy Johnson of Springfield, MO, and Phillip Mark Johnson and wife Eva of Maryville, MO; 8 grandchildren, Jeremiah Johnson, Cynthia Yardley, David Johnson, Jonathan Grindstaff, Mandi Reed, Sheena Peña, Haley Johnson, and Chad Johnson; 1 sister, Jessie Mae Burkhead; 2 brothers, James T. Johnson and Phillip Paul Johnson; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents, James Edward and Lola Mae (Wheeler) Johnson; 2 sisters, Marion and Glee; 4 brothers, Bud, Ned, Glen, and Bill. Services will be 11am Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Clary Funeral Home in Alton, MO, with Bro. David Case officiating, and burial following in the Huddleston Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10am-11am prior to the funeral service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Alton, MO. |
