James Russel Johnson, age 78 of Alton, Missouri was born January 28, 1932 in Alton to John Wellie and Martha Vida (Woods) Johnson. He departed this life on July 7, 2010 at his son’s home in Scott City, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Mary Annette Grooms on October 21, 1956 and is survived by his wife, one daughter, Celia Tate of St. Louis, Missouri and one son, James Johnson and wife Cara of Scott City, Missouri and five grandchildren, Aaron and Alex Tate and Tara, Taylor and Tessa Johnson. He entered the United States Air Force in 1949. He served in Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Iceland achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He retired after 20+ years of active duty. After he retired, he owned Johnson’s Electronics, an RCA repair shop. He also worked as an Oregon County River Patrolman on the Eleven Point River. He last attended church at United Baptist in Alton serving as a Bible Study and Adult Sunday School teacher. He was a very devoted and loving husband caring for his wife for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing the banjo and mandolin. He was loved and respected by those blessed enough to call him husband, father, grandfather and friend. Visitation will be on Friday, July 9, 2010 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Services will be at the Clary Funeral Home in Alton on Saturday, July 10 at 2:00 p.m. with his friends Pastor James Lee Reed and Pastor Ray Jr. Andrews officiating with burial following in the Many Springs Cemetery. |
