Curtis Liguel Martin, age 89 of Thayer, MO, was born April 23, 1921, in Raymond City, WV, and passed away April 28, 2010, at his home. He was united in marriage to Vera Parmele September 5, 1964. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as Sunday School President, Counselor in the Elders Quorum, and volunteering in many other callings. He was also a veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. Curtis worked as a coal miner in West Virginia. While working at Caterpillar in Illinois he served as President of UAW Local #974, and was chairman of the Bargaining Committee for 2 terms, for a total of 8 years. After retiring, he served as mediator, consiliator, and investigator for the Illinois Department of Labor. He also served as a State Legislative Aide for the State of Illinois. Curtis served four years as Mayor of Creve Coeur, IL. He was a volunteer for School District #76, Fort Creve Coeur, and Peoria Park District's Sommer Park.

Survivors include: his wife Vera, of the home; two daughters, Marian Buck of Imperial, MO, Sheila Burdette of East Peoria, IL; one brother, Ray Martin of Fairdealing, MO; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were: his parents, Albert James Martin and Lydia Asbury Martin; two sons, Troy and Bill Martin; one brother, Herschel Martin; and one sister, Maysel Borkus.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason, and was also a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the AmVets, as well as the Moose Lodge.

Services will be 1pm Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the Clary Funeral Home in Thayer, MO, with Bishop Roylance officiating, with burial following in the Thayer Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon-until service time Saturday. Arranements are under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Thayer, MO.
