Brenda Georgene Martin Roland, McDonough, Ga., formerly of Alton, Mo., suddenly departed her earthly life on December 14, 2009, and entered her heavenly home at the age of 62 years, 6 months and 26 days. Brenda was born May 18, 1947, in the Nebo community near Alton, Missouri to George Wilson and Mabel Beatrice Simpson Martin. She was the youngest of two sisters and one brother.

Brenda and Allen Wayne Roland were married on August 8, 1969, in Miami, Oklahoma. Their family included four children, four grandchildren, and one great grandson: SON: Duane Allen and Kim Roland and their children, Samantha and Jacob, Springfield, MO.; DAUGHTER: Dawn Michelle, Earl, and Taylor Maize, Halfway, MO.; Christina, Allen, and Austin Chandler, Viburnum, MO.; DAUGHTER: Alice Darlene Khosrovy, Glendale, Ca.; and DAUGHTER: Mary Viola and Andy Hall, Okinawa, Japan.

She was preceded in death by her Daddy, George Wilson Martin and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Allen and Viola Roland.

Other survivors besides her immediate family are her mother, Mabel Simpson Martin, Alton, MO., two sisters, Rebecca (Wendell) Williams and Ruth (Glen) Booker, Alton, MO., and one brother, Kenneth (Barbara) Martin, Bois D'Arc, Mo., as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Brenda was saved at an early age in life and was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church of Moody, Mo. She and Allen had been members of the Echota Cherokee Indian Tribe of Alabama Wolf Clan for 12 years where Brenda was the storyteller in the tribe at Powwow meetings and at educational events. She was Acting Clan Mother and held in high status in the Tribe because of Allen's position as fire keeper.

Inherited from her Daddy was her love for mathematics and the ability to never meet a stranger. Her love for math led to a career in teaching where she has been employed for 41 years. She taught four years at Mt. Vernon, Mo., four years at Woodbridge, Va., seventeen years at Alton, Mo., and was in her sixteenth year of teaching at Clayton County, Ga., at the time of her death. As well as being an educator, Brenda was also a learner. She graduated from Central High School in Springfield, Mo., and she earned college degrees from SMS with a B.S. in Education, ASU, Jonesboro, with a M.S. in Education and from the University of West Georgia, a Specialists in Education.

Brenda loved her family, life, teaching, her students, traveling, gardening, flowers, history and having fun. She loved to talk and was not bashful in expressing her opinions. She was also an avid genealogist. She had done much in-depth research of family history. Recently, she had been recognized as a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy and Daughters of the American Revolution. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2009, at the Clary Funeral Home Chapel, Alton, MO with Bob Wiggs officiating. Visitation is 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday. Interment will be in the Cave Springs Cemetery.
