Loyd Christopher, age 78, of Alton, MO was born January 8, 1931 in Tyronza, AR and passed away July 26, 2009 at St. John's Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO.

Loyd attended Clover Bend School in Hoxie, AR. In 1957, he was united in marriage to his wife of 51 years, Norma Jean Barton. Loyd retired in 1991 after working 39 years as a lead man at Harvard Interiors in St. Louis, MO. He had been a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and received lifetime recognition upon retirement. Loyd was a devout Christian who was a member of the O'Fallon Freewill Baptist Church and served on the Spiritual Advisory Board. After relocating to Alton in 1997, he was a member of the Victory Freewill Baptist Church and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and as an assistant Sunday school teacher. Loyd's retirement was spent on creative woodworking projects, writing poetry, working in his "weedless" garden, and sharing the fruits of his labor with his family and friends.

Loyd was a devoted husband to his wife Norma; and proud father of Taylor Christopher and wife Sherry of O'Fallon, MO, John Christopher and wife Vicki of O'Fallon, MO, and Renea Church and husband Bill of Alton, MO. He was the loving Papa to Casey, Kirsten, Megan, Marisa, Timothy, Elizabeth, and Christopher. He is also survived by one brother, Lowell Christopher and wife Barbara; three sisters, Genevieve Williams, Linda Spargo and husband Glendon, and Estelea Butler and husband Gary; four brother-in-laws, W.T. Barton and wife Gerry, Howard Barton and wife Alice, Gary Barton and wife Dorothy, and Garland Barton; and two sister-in-laws, Louise Winkler and husband Virgil, and Donna Vest and husband Irven; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, Estes and Eddie Mae Christopher, one sister, Wilma Christopher, one brother-in-law, Robert Williams, and one sister-in-law, Carolyn Barton.

Family will receive friends during visitation on Tuesday, July 28 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Clary Funeral Home. Services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 29 at the Victory Freewill Baptist Church with Brother Garland Barton officiating. Burial will be at Cave Springs Cemetery.
