Gladys Marie Combs, age 88 of Alton, was born June 19, 1920 and passed away February 24, 2009 at her home. Survivors include: one son, Keith Combs and wife Shirley of Alton, MO; son-in-law, Bob Anderson of Alton, MO; two brothers, Waif Strain of West Plains, MO, and Bob Strain of Ridgedale, MO; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Orville Strain and Ola Barton Strain; two husbands, David Combs and Oliver “Nick” Nickless; one daughter, Norma Jean “Jeanie” Anderson; one grandson, David Anderson; four brothers, Mac, Earl, Wallace and Wayman Strain; and three sisters, Helen, Agnes and Juanita. Gladys had been an insurance secretary, a clerk for the Probate Court, Asst. Postmaster at Couch and was the first woman to serve as Oregon county Tax Assessor. Services will be Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 2pm in the Clary Chapel, Alton, MO with burial in the Smith Cemetery. |
