Eugene Jewell Chronister, age 97, of Alton, MO, was born September 15, 1911, in Alton, MO, and passed away December 18, 2008. He was united in marriage to Ina Jackson on October 10, 1931. They celebrated 74 years of marriage before she preceded him in death three years ago. Survivors include: 1 daughter, Carolyn Belt of Alton, MO; 2 sons, Robert Chronister and wife Sue of Alton, MO, and Vernon Chronister and wife Joyce of West Plains, MO; 3 brothers, Granville Chronister and wife Callie of Alton, MO, Duane Chronister and wife Jean of Sikeston, MO, and Leroy Chronister and wife Irene of Alton, MO; 1 sister-in-law, Dorothy Grissum and husband Harold of Alton, MO; 6 grandchildren, Craig Chronister and wife Angie of West Plains, MO, Brian Chronister of Philadelphia, Terry Belt of Arlington, VA, Jill Pierce of Chicago, Richard Chronister and wife Regena of West Plains, MO, and Andrew Chronister and wife Kim of Cape Girardeau, MO; 4 great grandchildren, Caitlin and Tyler Chronister of West Plains, MO, and Veronica and Dennis Pierce of Chicago, IL; and numerous other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Floy Chronister; and one sister, Verna Siegel. Jewell and Ina lived in St. Louis for over 30 years, then in several communities in Illinois and Wisconsin while he worked for J.I. Case Company. He retired after 37 years with the company and they moved to Alton in 1972. They were both long time members of the First Baptist Church of Alton. Services will be 10:30am Saturday, December 20, 2008, at the Alton First Baptist Church, DR. Todd Ewing officiating. with interment following in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6pm-8pm Friday, December 19, 2008, at the Alton First Baptist Church. Arrangements are being made under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Alton, MO. |
