Dorothy Lea Cotton, age 94, of Alton, MO. was born September 4, 1914 in Wynne, Arkansas. She passed away October 5, 2008 at West Vue Nursing Center in West Plains, MO. Dorothy Lea came to Oregon County, MO in 1938 from Wynne, Arkansas to teach English and music. She taught at Couch School, Thomasville School and Alton School. She married L. R. “Red” Cotton of Couch, Mo on June 30, 1941. They owned and operated the Western Auto and Alton Gas Co. Survivors include 2 daughters, Janet Bond and husband Paul of Aurora, MO and Barbara Dethrow and husband Mike of Alton, MO. Three grandchildren, Justin Bond and wife, Holly of Lee’s Summit, MO. Netanya Bond of Raytown, MO. and Michael Dethrow and wife Susannah of Jonesboro, AR., two great-grandchildren, Sheridan Dethrow and Keaton Bond, brother-in-law, Pat Cotton and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, T. E. and Vernette Lines, husband, “Red” Cotton, brothers, Richard and Fred Lines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am, October 8, 2008, at Alton United Methodist Church with Reverends Paul and Janet Bond and James Shrieves. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery of Alton.
