Hosea Carl Cates, age 71, of Alton, MO, was born July 13, 1937, in Oregon County, MO, and passed away September 29, 2008, at the Cox South Hospital, Springfield, MO.

Survivors include: his wife, Nancy, of the home; one daughter, Regina Barton and husband Greg; one son, Jeff Cates and wife Sondra; his mother, Lois Cates; one sister, Helen Holmes; four grandchildren, Erin Melby and husband Heath, Whitney Chadwick and husband Chase, Jon Barton, Alyssa Cates; one great-grandchild, Jadeyn Melby; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death: his father, Corwin Cates; one brother, Herman Cates; and one infant sister.

Services will be 3pm Thursday, October 2, 2008, in the Bailey Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Darrell Strain officiating. Interment will be in the Smith Cemetery. Visitation will be 6pm-8pm Wednesday, at the Clary Funeral Home in Alton, MO.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Canyon Country Freewill Baptist Church building fund.
