Leon Glen DuBois, age 78, died in his home at Farewell, Missouri, on April 1, 2008. He was born June 23, 1929, in Ravenden, Arkansas, to Emmaline James DuBois and Elias Grover DuBois. Leon attended several one-room schools in Randolph County, Arkansas. He later attended school for a time at Couch High School. On November 3, 1948, he was married to Lucrecia Erma Crase. His young adult years were spent driving a milk truck for the Thayer Cheese Plant. Leon graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, in 1968. His first teaching position was at Potosi High School where he served as Chairman of the Social Studies Department from 1968-1980. In 1980, he returned to live on his farm at Farewell and taught English and drove the bus for Oak Ridge Central School District for one year. In 1981, he began teaching junior high social studies at Thayer High School where he continued working until his retirement on May 26, 1989.

Leon was a member of the Church of Christ and had served as an elder at the Dellhalf Church of Christ for the past several years. He will long be remembered for being a loving husband, wonderful father, and compassionate grandfather. Leon’s survivors include: his wife, Lucrecia DuBois of the home in Farewell, Missouri; his two children, Michael DuBois and wife Linda of Thayer, Missouri, and Rose Turnbough of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; five grandchildren including David Turnbough and wife Becky of Salem, Arkansas, Jamie Turnbough and wife Kristin of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, Geoff DuBois and wife Christie of Thayer, Missouri, Leah Rolen and husband H.C. of Thayer, Missouri, and Jana Haven and husband Richard of Thayer, Missouri. Leon was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren; Nick, Matt, Justice, Avery, Jett, Jurnee, Jayce, Hayden, Jaylie, and Zeb, who were the light of his life. Other survivors include two sisters, Ruth Johnson, of West Plains, Missouri and Kay McGhee and husband Carl of Myrtle, MO, several nieces and nephews, and his many friends and neighbors. His father, mother, sister, two brothers, and one great-grandchild, Grady Dubois preceded him in death.

Memorial services will be 7:00pm Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the Dellhalf Church of Christ. Arrangements under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home, Thayer, MO.


The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks to set up a scholarship for a Thayer graduating senior who is majoring in education in lieu of flowers.
