C. H. “Pete” Willoughby, age 84, was born December 14, 1923, in Trumann, AR, to John and Geneva Mae Dunn Willoughby, and passed away January 15, 2008, at the Ozarks Medical Center, West Plains, MO. He’s survived by: 1 son, Steven Randall Willoughby of Springfield, MO; 1 daughter, Sandra Leigh Willoughby Underwood and husband Jed of Thayer, MO; 5 grandsons, Dayle Bates of Orlando, FL, Alan Bates and wife Tracy of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Justin Perez of New Madrid, MO, Jared Underwood and wife Bethany of West Plains, MO, and Logan Underwood of Thayer, MO; 1 great-granddaughter, Amber Bates of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; 1 nephew, Richard Cockrum; 3 nieces, Jeanne Allen, Cheryl McFall, and Connie Bradsher. He was preceded by: his parents, John Benjamin and Geneva Mae Dunn Willoughby; his wife, Nina Marie Revell; 1brother, J.B. Willoughby; 1 sister, Marie Treadway; 2 children, Lewis Harmon Willoughby and Geneva Maxine Willoughby Perez. Pete graduated from high school in Trumann, AR, in 1943, and was married to Nina Marie Revell on June 3, 1955. He retired from the Frisco-Burlington Northern Railroad in 1991 after 44 years of service. Pete also served on the Oregon County Democrat committee and enjoyed attending political rallies. He loved his job on the railroad, and traveling to retirement gatherings. He also loved baseball and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Pete never met a stranger, and always had a joke or railroad story to tell. He was a member of the Thayer 1st Baptist Church for 55 years. Funeral services will be 10am Friday, January 18, 2008, at the Clary Funeral Home in Thayer, MO, with Bro. Gerald Bounds officiating. Visitation will be 6pm-8pm Thursday, January 17, 2008, in the Clary Chapel. Interment will be 4pm Friday afternoon in the Elbridge Cemetery in Elbridge, TN with Bro. Richard Robinson officiating. Arrangements are being made under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Thayer, MO. |
