Marilyn Kay French, nee Hudgens, passed away on July 24, 2025, in West Plains, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Billy Arlin French, her son, Craig Alan French, and her seven siblings.

Kay was born in Thayer, MO, on June 13, 1944, to Steven and Lula Hudgens. She married Bill on August 21, 1962. They worked together for many years, running retirement communities throughout the country, from Colorado to California to Hawaii, finally retiring in Edgar Springs, MO. Kay especially loved living in Hawaii.

Kay attended Thayer schools, graduating high school in 1962, and became the first female EMT in Missouri and later a paramedic. She loved gardening, especially her flowers, and was an accomplished and very talented artist. Kay was a champion dominos player and said, “The scorekeeper always wins.” She was usually the scorekeeper…

Kay was active in Scouting as well and worked for many years on an extensive family genealogy project. She was a member of the Lenox Ladies, who met regularly to undertake numerous projects in and for the community.

Kay is survived by her children, Ty Wayne (Robin) French and Angelia Marie (Karen) Ehlers, her grandchildren, Jessica (Cole) French, William French, Stephen Ehlers, and Sarah Ehlers; her great-grandchildren, Zoey, Eli, John, Jaxon, Jameson, Kasey, ShyAnne and Kade, as well as her much-loved nieces and nephews for whom she was always available for advice or just a good long chat. She leaves behind many beloved family members and friends.

Services will be held at Clary Funeral Home in Thayer, MO, on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 11am, followed by procession and interment of both Bill and Kay at Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, AR.

All are invited to luncheon immediately following, at the Church of Christ in Mammoth Spring.
