Stephen Bruce McCullough, of Thayer, MO, was born on March 2, 1952, in Batesville, AR, to Audie Gilbert and Edith Geraldine Brown McCullough and departed this life on February 12, 2021 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO, at the age of 68.

Steve was united in marriage to Ophelia Ann Childers on September 16, 1978, in Thayer, MO, and to this union one daughter, Stephenie Ann, was born.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ophelia McCullough of the home in Thayer, MO, one daughter, Stephenie Ann McCullough and her partner Chance Crites, of West Plains, MO; one sister, Lisa Denny and her husband Bob of Salem, AR; one nephew, Chris Stephens of Salem, AR, five nieces, Sabrina Gallimore and husband Jeff of Leesburg, VA, Angela Ford Gargus and husband Darrin of West Plains, MO; Beth McCullough of Berryville, AR, Joyce Bean of Springfield, MO, Teresa McCullough of Sparta, MO sister’s-in-law Betty Boles of Leesburg, VA and Shirley Day and husband Sonny of West Plains, MO, and a host of family and friends that he dearly loved.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Audie and Edith McCullough, brother and sister-in-law A. G. and Willene McCullough; brother’s-in-law Hanley Ford and Frank Boles; in-laws Raymond and Cecile Childers.

Steve was involved in many business endeavors during his life. He had worked at the Tri-County Shirt Factory, truck driver for Hiltons, installed satellites throughout the country with AR MO Satellite, owner and operator of Radio Shack and Outback Gun and Pawn, both in Mammoth Spring, AR. He was employed for 13 years through Railcrew Express in transporting railroaders. He loved the CB radio buddies he met over the years, especially the 26895 Club.

Steve adored his daughter Stephenie and would do anything for her. When she was young, he would go up on the roof on Christmas Eve, stomp on the roof and jingle bells as if Santa and his reindeer were delivering gifts. Stephenie got in a major “disagreement’ with a classmate who suggested Santa wasn’t real- but she knew better because Santa had been on her roof!!

The family wants Steve to be remembered as an individual who tried to be good to everyone, loved his family, appreciated his longtime friends and was always ready for a good laugh. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity or contribution toward funeral expenses may be left at the funeral home.

Services for Stephen McCullough will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Clary Funeral Home in Thayer. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 am at the funeral home. Private burial will be later at Morriston Cemetery in Morriston, AR.
