Dale Williams of Alton, passed away Monday, January 11, 2021. He was born in Oregon County on September 22, 1933 to Gibb and M.E. “Lena” Williams. Dale grew up on a farm, graduated from Alton High School and took a job at the American Can Company in St. Louis, April 1952. Dale was then drafted into the US Army in 1953 and served as an artilleryman in Occupied Germany until his discharge in 1955. He returned to his job in St. Louis and then married Unas Earlene Wiggs of Alton in May 1956. They had three sons, Ricky, Randy and Ronald. He eventually retired as Supervisor of the Quality Control Department at American Can Company to a farm east of Alton in 1990, per Dale’s goal his entire life.

After becoming a Christian in the 1960s, Dale served as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Trustee at Springdale Missionary Baptist Church in Fenton and later as a member of Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Alton. Dale was also a founding member of the BB Road Volunteer Fire Department, donating the land where the fire department and community center sits, and served on the board in various capacities for over ten years.

He is survived by his wife, Earlene, of more than 64 years, sons Ricky and Randy, granddaughter Tanya Passmore, grandsons Nathan, Ricky, Jesse, Joshua, Cody and Jonathan Williams, as well as fifteen great-grandchildren. Brothers Jesse and Jewell, and Sister Connie Bettis have also survived.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joe, James, Jennings, Junior, and Jerry Williams, and sisters Pauline Van Winkle, Eileen “Gusty” Smith, Eugenia Wagoner, Cindy Jackson and Sherry Williams, and his son Ronald.

Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 Saturday, January 16, 2021 with funeral service to follow at the Oak Hill Church with Bro. Edward Casey officiating, pallbearers Ricky, Jesse, Cody and Nathan Williams, Ryan Passmore and Jason Worthen, honorary pallbearers Larry Lathem and Tony Roberts. Interment will be in the Cotton Creek Cemetery under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO.
