Grover Dale Crews, age 66 of Alton, MO, son of Sherman and Ruth (Johnson) Crews, was born January 1, 1954 in Springfield, MO and passed away December 2, 2020, at Cox South in Springfield, MO. He was united in marriage on November 28, 1975 at Smyrna Church in Alton, MO to Darlene Sloan, and to this union two children were born, Leslie and Justin. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Crews of the home in Alton, one daughter, Leslie and husband Daniel of Alton, three grandchildren, Dillon, Payton and Madison of Alton, 3 sisters, Carolyn Trantham and husband Charles of Alton, Marilyn Eldringhoff and husband Mark of West Plains, Diana Yates of Fordland, 1 brother, Junior Crews and wife Deanna of St. Louis, one sister in law, Arlene Ruff and husband Mike of Kansas City, Father and Mother in law, Norman and Christine Sloan of Alton, 7 nephews, Michael Ruff and wife Jamie of Kansas City, Andy Trantham and wife Amy of Alton, Chris Trantham and wife April of Alton, Jeremy Crews, Stanton Crews of West Plains, Joe Yates of Springfield, Henry Eldringhoff of West Plains, and 3 nieces, Christie Glaze and husband Steve of Kansas City, Shauna Norris and husband Eric of Joplin and Abby Eldringhoff of West Plains. Preceding him in death were his parents, Sherman and Ruth Crews and son, Justin Crews. Grover graduated Alton High School in 1972 and attended college at Columbia University (Mizzou) in Columbia Missouri. After he was married he served as Oregon County Assessor for 16 years. He started work at Alton Bank in 1997 and was currently employed there as a Loan Officer and Vice President. Besides his day job he was also an avid farmer his entire life on the Crews Family farm. He was a member of the Alton Freewill Baptist Church and was baptized in 2008. He was an outstanding Papa to his 3 grandchildren and spent his evenings and weekends watching them play in various sports, taking them hunting, farming and feeding the fish. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. Services will be Wednesday December 9 at 11:00 am at the Alton Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Charles Trantham officiating. Burial will be at Shiloh Cemetery under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO. Visitation will be Tuesday December 8 from 5:00-7:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make contributions to the Gideons or The Justin Crews Memorial Scholarship. |
