Lonnie Ray Chewning went home to be with The Lord Sunday, October 11, 2020, while in University Hospital in Columbia, MO. Ray was born to Carrie Jane and Leonard Sylvester Chewning on November 28, 1944 in Phoenix City, Alabama. He attended grade school in Columbus, Georgia; Junior High School in Tampa, Florida; and graduated high school at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1963. Ray served in the United States Air Force for four years and was stationed at Orlando, Florida, and did a tour of duty in Vietnam. Ray was a 100% disabled veteran. Ray resided in Denver, Colorado, for several years where he was employed as a bouncer, Then he moved to Holly Hi", Florida, to take care of his mother. Ray worked as a prison guard at a federal prison outside of Daytona Beach, and retired from there after twenty years and moved to Alton, Missouri, in the year 2000. Ray's nickname was "Trampas" because he looked just like him in his younger years! He loved His cars and trucks and his dog Junior and he had a gift for telling big yarns! Ray's storytelling will always be one of our most cherished memories of him. He loved to fish and caught several record sized bass and trout! He loved to make beef jerky and sweet pickles which he shared with the community. He had his own recipe for both! God loves a cheerful giver and Ray gave unselfishly. . Three words that sum up our dear Brother and Uncle are: Loving, Sharing and Laughter. Sadly, the corona virus took another nursing home patient. Ray is survived by one brother, one sister-in-law, one half brother, two half sisters, many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Mother, Father and younger Brother. Graveside services are to be held Friday, October 16,2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Springfield, Missouri. Clary Funeral Home in Alton, Missouri is in charge of arrangements. But, I would not have you ignorant, brothers, concerning those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by The Word of The Lord, that we who are alive and remain until The Coming of The Lord will not precede those who are asleep_ For The Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. And the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet The Lord in the air. And so we shall be forever with The Lord! Therefore, comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 I have fought The Good Fight; I have finished The Race; I have kept The Faith! Therefore, there is laid up for me The Crown of Righteousness!! 2 Timothy 4:7 Until we meet again ...
