Mary Annette Johnson, age 80, of Alton, Missouri was born on May 29, 1938 in Oregon County, Missouri to Sam Lloyd Grooms and Mildred Janie (Greer) Grooms. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 13, 2018 in Alton, Missouri.

She was united in marriage to James Russel Johnson on October 21, 1956 in Alton, Missouri and is survived by one daughter, Celia Tate of St. Louis, Missouri and one son, James Johnson and wife Cara of Scott City, Missouri and five grandchildren, Aaron and Alex Tate and Tara, Taylor and Tessa Johnson, and two great grandchildren, Teagan and Raegan Diggs. She is also survived by her four sisters and one brother, Nadine Crase of Alton, Missouri, Jarutha Mullen of St. Peters, Missouri, Joe Grooms and wife Sharon of Morley, Missouri, Rebecca Meyer and husband Dan of Union, Missouri, and Sally McCallum and husband Bruce of Ballwin, Missouri.

After graduating from Couch High School in 1956, Annette spent the next 20 years as a military wife. Both children, Celia and James, were born while stationed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The family was then stationed in Japan where she was influenced by the Japanese culture and where she learned to paint. She stayed in the US raising their two children while Russel did extended tours in Iceland and the Philippines. In 1969 when Russel retired, they returned to Oregon County and Annette worked for the Assessor’s Office, the Health Department and Central Ozark Machine.

Annette was a culinary gourmet cook known for her amazing pies and her legendary sourdough English muffins. She loved to sing and her beautiful soprano voice could be heard singing in church as long as she was able. She loved her family and her personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Annette was always willing and eager to introduce others to the Jesus Christ she knew and loved.

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalms
