Esther L. Strain was born on January 30, 1941 in Grandin, Missouri. She was adopted at age 9 by Levi and Virginia Garrett of Alton, Missouri. She departed this life on July 18, 2018 in Springfield, Missouri Mercy Hospital.

On July 25, 1959 Esther was united in marriage to Darrell Strain and to this union four children were born. She is survived by her husband Darrell Strain, children, Debbie Cox of Harrison, Arkansas, Terrie Honeycutt, husband Jeff of Thayer, Mo, Jeff Strain of Rogers, Arkansas and Kristie Thompson and husband Jim of Thomasville, Mo.

She is survived by 6 Grandsons, Michael Bandy of West Plains, Mo, Adam Bandy and wife Samantha of Alton, Mo, Levi Schmidt and wife Emily of Thomasville, Mo, Hunter Schmidt of Alton, Mo. Eric Honeycutt and wife Taylor, US Air force, Kalon Honeycutt and wife Allanah, US Air force, and Tyler Wilkerson. Two Grand daughters, McKenzie and Maggie Cox of Harrison, Arkansas. Five great grandchildren. Sisters, Kay Garrett of Needles, California, Norma Kallak of Alton, Mo, Wanda Watson of West Plains, Mo, Janet Minich of West Plains, Mo, a brother Dean Minich of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Brother in law Phillip Strain and wife Connie, of Mountain Grove, Mo., Sister in law Linda Caruthers and husband Mack of Joplin, Mo., Sister in law Judy Mills of Alton, Mo. A host of friends and relatives mourn her passing.

A twin brother Billy Dean Smith and brothers Larry and Gary Hunter of West Plains, Mo preceded her in death as well as her parents Levi and Virginia Garrett. Father and mother in law Wallace and Viola Strain, Grand Daughter Alexandria Bandy, a sister in law Donna Strain and brother in laws Norman Mills, Carl Watson and Russell Kallak.

Esther was a member of the Bailey Freewill Baptist Church where she was the pianist and fill in for whatever was needed by the church. She was the example of a Godly wife and the pastor’s helpmate. Esther was a Gospel song writer and a watercolor artist. She was a dedicated Christian, home maker, Nana and great grandmother. She will be missed in her home, her Church and her Community.

Proverbs 31:10 says that a Virtuous (Godly) woman is more valuable than pearls. Esther was that woman!

Services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the Bailey Freewill Baptist Church, burial in the New Bailey Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Saturday at the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO.
