David Meril Shaw, along with his twin brother Earl, was born July 21, 1937, to Myrtle (Wilburn) Shaw & her husband Johnny Shaw.

Meril and his family lived in the Dry Creek area and he attended and graduated from Couch High School. At age 16, Meril answered the call to preach and during his life pastored several country Baptist Churches, the last one being Hickory Grove Presbyterian Church.

On June 10, 1956, not long after he graduated, he & his love, Kay Bennett were quietly married by a friend, Bro. Keith Johnson. To their union was born 2 sons, David Shaw and Bruce Shaw, & in 1980 a beautiful baby was born whom they raised & call lovingly their grandson-son. A few years ago Chris & his wife built Meril & Kay a beautiful new home on Chris’ ranch near Rolla. Up to that time Oregon & Howell County was where they resided.

Meril had many talents & different work jobs. Not only did he minister country churches, he & his wife Kay sang together. He had a beautiful tenor voice, but could also sing bass. He loved to play his guitar! Some of the occupations he had were farm work, meat cutter, Meril & Kay’s auction service, woodworking, Amyx Ind. Mill foreman; while he was foreman he oversaw & helped build a huge rocking chair used by then Miss Missouri in her competition. He was very proud of their sons & all the family, and he loved to see the pictures they would send from their phones to he and Kay.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Kay; his sons, David (Lisa), Bruce (Lindi), & Chris (Tosha); several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Jesse Earl Shaw, Jimmie Delbert Shaw; 1 sister, Henrietta Stephens; & a host of nieces & nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Johny & Myrtle Shaw; his sisters, Leona Frost & Viola Bettis; a brother, Joseph Shaw; also a beloved grandson, David Michael Shaw.

Funeral Services will be 2pm Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the Clary Funeral Home in Alton, MO, with Bro. Bill Bales and Bro. Robert Chastain officiating, and burial following in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 12pm-2pm Thursday prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Alton, MO.
