Howard Ray “Bud†Joslin, 81, was born July 5th, 1935 in Orange County, CA. He lost his battle with cancer on May 27, 2017 in Alton, MO. He was born to Charles “Chub†Joslin and Clara Louise McGuire Joslin and he earned his nickname “Bud†from his grandmother. Bud was the younger of 2 children with older sister Joyce Joslin Mauldin. Bud was an extremely shy boy who often hid under the kitchen table when friends and family came to visit. Except for a brief time during WWII when the family moved to IL, he spent his childhood in Southern California. At 15, he started his first job as a bowling pin setter. After graduating high school, he entered the Navy and worked as an aviation mechanic where he traveled to Japan and China. He continued this vocation after discharge and worked at McDonnell Douglas in California among other mechanic vocations. After moving to Missouri, he met and married Mary Lee Martin Joslin on August 27, 1967 and they raised 2 daughters, Leann Joslin and Lorrie Joslin Bettis. Bud loved giving to others and volunteered with the Boy Scouts, the Selective Service board, worked on the Alton City Council and served on the Alton Fire Department and as the Alton Fire Chief. He loved working on cars and race cars, bowling, and spoiling his grandchildren. He is survived by sister, Joyce Joslin Mauldin; wife Mary Lee Joslin; daughters, Leann Joslin and Lorrie Joslin Bettis and husband Phil Bettis; granddaughter Jessica; grandsons Mitchell, Austin, Kaleb, and Ethan. He was also survived by nieces: Kathy Smith, Beverly Esterline and husband Alan, Cindy Holdt and husband Leroy, nephew: Jeff Smith and wife Sheila, and other numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, step grand and great-grandchildren. Bud’s mom always said he was her little firecracker that popped a day late and he left this life with a bang on the wave of a thunderstorm. He will be much missed and may he rest in peace. Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, May 31 at the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO, with burial in the Cave Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Alton Senior Citizens “Meals on Wheelsâ€. |
