After Gene returned from WWII he and Dorothy bought (not rented) a small house, furniture and groceries, got their blood test and prepared to marry that very day. They did marry “that day” in September of 1947 in Salem, Arkansas. They worked in Dallas, Texas for a few years for Gene’s sister in a restaurant, returned to Missouri and Gene went to the Mohler School of Barbers. Upon completion of that course, Gene barbered in Rolla, Mo then they returned to Alton along with Rosemary and Doug and bought the Lemuel Simpson farm in 1954 near Greer and appreciated the prosperity that Oregon County provided them. Dorothy and Gene operated beauty and barber shops in Alton 34 years, farmed while raising Rosemary and Doug and went with them to church.
