William Thomas (Bill) Young, Sr., Alton, died December 19, 2014 at his home in the same room where he was born on July 25, 1934. He was the son of Frank Oglesby and Marian Frances Owens Young and the grandson of Oglesby and Sarah Johnson Young and Samuel and Martha Jane Grooms Owens.

He and Mary Alice Franks were married on June 10, 1955. They had five children, William Thomas Young, Jr., Kathryn Laurel Young Johnson, Paul Franks Young, Frank Peyton Young, and Anne Frances Young Oesch. Mary Alice died on June 9, 1981, the same week that Anne Frances had her eleventh birthday.

He and Judith Pauline Schunk McGinnis were married on November 12, 1988. With that marriage he became the father of three adult children, Jodie Ann McGinnis Hester, Joyce Evelyn McGinnis Sewell, and Janice Lee McGinnis Espinosa.

He thought himself fortunate to have the love and support of two wonderful women and eight children who are all good and responsible citizens.
He is survived by his wife Judith, eight children, 21 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one brother, Robert Gordon Young. His parents, grandparents and two brothers, Joseph Oglesby and Samuel Peyton, preceded him in death.

He was an active member of the Alton United Methodist Church from his youth until his health did not allow him to continue. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at the University of Missouri, Columbia and was proud to be known as Liberal FDR Democrat. He served as Executive Director of Ozark Action, Inc. and worked with and for the employees of Missouri’s Community Action Agencies for forty- two years.

A memorial service will be held in the United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 27 at 3:00 pm followed by dinner served at the United Methodist Community Worship Center featuring some good smoked beef brisket. Memorial contributions would be welcomed by the Hospice Compassus, 1406 Kentucky Ave., West Plains, MO or to The National Community Action Foundation c/o Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO.
