Cecil “Pete” Campbell was born June 3, 1935, the son of Sam Campbell and Murl “Lynch” Campbell and went to Glory in the arms of his wife August 17, 2012, at his home in West Plains, MO, at the age of 77 years. He was united in marriage Decemeber 8m 1957, at Peoria, IL, to Mary Mooningham who loved and cared for him deeply. He is survived by: his wife, Mary, of the home; one son, Mike Campbell and wife Melody of Springfield, MO; two daughters, Vicky Barton and husband Mark of Alton, MO, and Jody Bates of Springfield, MO; seven grandchildren, Samuel Barton of Alton, Zach Barton of Alton, and special future family Chelsea Tyson and Braxton, Micah Bates of Auburn Hills, MI, Jesse Bates and Hollie of Pomona, MO, Tiffany Campbell and Tabitah Campbell of Springfield, MO, and Brad Bettis and Davere of Fair Grove, MO; six great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kassidy, Rylee, Madalyn, Adien and Kolten; one brother, Jack of Alton; two sisters, Donna and Denna of West Plains, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Sam and Murl Campbell; father and mother-in-law, Everett and Gladys Mooningham; three sisters-in-law, Imogene, Ruth, and Carolyn; and one special nephew, Ricky Campbell. From 1958 to 1960 he served in the military where he earned 2 badges of honor. He also was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and gigging whenever possible. He spent and enjoyed over 30 years of working on Brookwood Ranch. He was a beloved fan of Alton Comet basketball. He also enjoyed watching various other sports on Sunday afternoons and other times with family. He was a faithful member of the Smyrna Freewill Baptist Church where he loved to sing and worship God. He also served as an ordained deacon, Sunday School superintendent and teacher. He will be truly missed by family, friends, and his church. Services will be 11am Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at the Clary Funeral Home in Alton, MO, with burial following in the Huddleston Cemetery. Visitation will be 6pm-8pm Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home in Alton, MO. |
